I hope you are all having a wonderful and cruelty free Easter weekend. Here is the vegan/animal rights news of the week.

Live Animal Keychains: Trendy Or Cruelty?

This article shocked me greatly. I shouldn't be surprised by all of the horrible stories that come out of China regarding animals but this one managed to. Live animals like fish, turtles and salamanders are put in small plastic bags and are sold as key chains. The people selling them of course are saying that the bags contain enough nutrients and oxygen to keep the animals alive, but there is no way it could keep them alive or more than a few days. It's truly disgusting.

Tortured circus bear makes British tabloids, gets asylum in the U.S.

While it is amazing and wonderful that Peru banned animals from circus acts in 2012, there is still a lot of work to do to make sure that all of the animals that are now out of the circuses get safe and caring homes. Cholita the bear was rescued from a circus 10 years ago and has been in a dilapidated small town zoo ever since. She is in pathetic shape. She has almost no hair, her teeth have been broken and her paws have been mutilated. They are raising money to transport her to a sanctuary in Colorado where she can recover and live in some kind of peace for the rest of her life. If you would like to contribute to her rescue you can do so at Animal Defenders International's website.

Slaughterhouse donates lamb to Ontario animal sanctuary
I wanted to end the news on a light note. Animal activists made a deal with a slaughterhouse in Ontario to spare the life of one lamb for the Easter holiday. The slaughter house agreed and handed over the lamb on the Thursday before Good Friday. The baby lamb will now live out it's life at Well Wishing Sanctuary around other rescued animals and caring people. Happy life little lamb!

Happy Easter!
