Traveling Vegan: Berkeley, CA

Traveling Vegan: Berkeley, CA

The quality of the vegan options in Berkeley is top notch. Being a college town, the veg options will only continue to grow along with the student population. Also, Berkeley is home to the bay area's all vegan store, which supports Animal Place. There are a lot of places to see and places to eat (my favorite) in Berkeley so see my recommendations below and get over there!

I don't know why more people don't know about Cinnaholic. It's amazing. An all vegan, build your own cinnamon bun place. It's in the heart of Berkeley, right off of the UC Berkeley campus.

The options here are endless. They usually have several specials in case the long list of frostings and toppings is too overwhelming for you.

Traveling Vegan: Berkeley, CAOn this trip we got the mocha Oreo and strawberry marshmallow buns. Which were both amazing. I've never had a combination here that I didn't like.

I'm dying for a reason to get there cinnamon bun cakes that they make and post pictures of on Instagram. They look drool worthy.

This is a GREAT place to take people who are non believers regarding yummy vegan food. Cinnaholic will make them believers.

The Butcher’s Son

The Butcher's Son has some of the BEST vegan food in the whole Bay Area. Their brunch and lunch menus are both amazing and you can't help but going crazy over board when you visit. They make their own vegan meats and cheeses that you can take home as well. This place is vegan paradise. It's pretty small so don't expect to get a seat if you come at a peak time and have to stand in the line that is out the door. It's so worth the wait though! When I go for brunch I love their banana pancakes and This Is My Addiction. Both of these are two die for and I usually get them both and take whatever I can't finish home to finish later. The Steak and Cheese Hoagie is also very good at brunch. On their deli lunch menu, I love their Meatball Sub and BBQ Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich. They have a huge menu of sandwiches so there are so many I haven't tried yet. You will be sorry if you are visiting the Bay Area and don't stop at the Butcher's Son. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Hebivore is one of the most popular vegan restaurants in the bay area. It's familiar menu and good locations make them a starting point for many people looking to try more vegan food.

Traveling Vegan: Berkeley, CATheir menu is full of your old favorites, only of course veganized, and they are served to you in bright and airy spaces.

Listed here are a few of my favorite things on their menu. The only thing I would not recommend getting is the pizza, which was really disappointing.

We started off with the buffalo bites, which had a great texture and ranch dressing. The sauce was actually quite mild, so you would still enjoy the taste without having your taste buds burnt off.

Traveling Vegan: Berkeley, CAThough it looks like the next two items are the same, they are different sandwiches on the same bread and with the same side (potato salad).

My husband always get the cheese steak which is pictured first. It's a menu favorite and you can choose to have it made from several proteins.

I always love to get the meatball sub. It's warm and comforting and a throw back to the meatball subs I loved in my childhood. The added grilled onions and cheese is the icing on the cake.
